The idea

Hear-ye, hear-ye!

After a lot of brainstorming in the Magic Omens lair, we decided to crawl out into the sunlight and present our brand new idea. You guessed it right - we will be trying to host a Magic: The Gathering Arena tournament! We really like Strixhaven and the idea behind the College theme, playful artwork, powerful cards and beautiful Mystical Archives (especially the incredible Japanese arts!), and with the pandemic still limiting us from paper Magic, so we decided we would like to try organising a MTGA tournament. If it goes well, this even might become a regular thing! Wouldn't that be awesome?

 

The information

Date: Saturday, May 15th

Start: 13:00 CEST (GMT+2)

Format: Standard

Tournament type: Swiss + top8

Entry fee: 40 HRK (6.5 EUR) via Bank Transfer, Card Payment or Paypal

Minimum players: 8

Maximum players: 64

 

The Platform

For this tournament we will be using mtgmelee.com. We're using MTGMelee because it does a lot of things automatically - like tournament and score management, pairings, results, and some other pretty neat stuff! MTGMelee is really easy to use so we're sure you'll get the hang of it. Yes, you'll need to create an account.

After you pay the entry fee, you will be emailed a code to enter the tournament. 

 

Prizes

Top 8 contestants will receive prizes.

Prizes depend on the number of participants.

Each participant brings 1 Strixhaven Set Booster (EN) into the prize pool. 

Prizes will be distributed depending on the prize pool. Shipping is included for everyone.

Magic Omens will include additional prizes if we get 32 people into the tournament. And even more prizes if we get all 64 slots filled! Including random prizes for people who did not land in top 8!

 

TImeline

Applications are open right now! We will be taking in applications until Sunday, May 9th, 23:59:59 CEST (GMT+2). Applications will be on a first come - first serve basis. You will receive the information to pay the participation fee directly to your e-mail address.

If more than 64 players apply, a waiting list is formed.

The deadline to pay the participation fee will be Tuesday, May 11th. If some of the participants do not pay by then, people from the waiting list will be contacted on Wednesday, May 12th.

 

Rules

Format: Standard best of three

Decklists: Mandatory, using MTGMelee

Round Length: 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, if the game is not finished - it ends in a tie. If the score is 1-0, the first player takes the win. If the score is 0-1, the second player takes the win. If it's 1-1, the round ends in a tie.

All tournament support and administration will be done through Discord.
