U svakom slučaju, formula za početak je uvijek slična i jednostavna. Starter Deck i Structure Deck proizvodi dolaze s legalnim deckom za igru od 40 karata, potencijalno nekim extra deck monsterima, a sadrže knjižicu s pravilima igre i osnovnim uputstvima za deck no možda nisu najbolji početak za nekog potpuno novog…

Structure Deck: The Crimson King sadrži karte koje Jack Atlasovu strategiju fokusiranu na Red Dragon Archfienda donose na novu razinu. Ne samo da je lako prizvati sva njegova najjača čudovišta, nego je sadržaj decka dovoljno dobar da se karte igraju na najvećim turnirima!

Kako početi igrati Yu-Gi-Oh! u stvarnom životu nakon Master Duela?
Master Duel brzo je postao jedna od najpopularnijih igara na Steamu. Brzo je privukao ljubitelje digitalnih kartaških igara, a svojom organizacijom turnira privlači i one koji uživaju u natjecanju, kako iz Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG-a i druge kartaške igre. Osim što nudi niz kvalifikacija za veće turnire, igrači također imaju pristup mnogim manjim turnirima gdje se mogu natjecati za razne stvarne nagrade, kao što su zaštite za karte i druge memorabilije.
Ako ste započeli s Master Duelom iz želje za natjecanjem, a niste prije igrali papirnatu verziju igre, odnosno TCG - Trading Card Game, ovaj odjeljak objašnjava kako vam je najbolje krenuti s igrom.
Kao što već vjerojatno znate iz Master Duela, postoji niz karata koje svaki deck može koristiti neovisno o svojoj glavnoj strategiji. Te karte su poznate kao staple karte i obično se radi o kartama čiji efekti imaju jako generičan cilj da zaustave protivnika. Primjeri takvih karata su Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring koja sprječava protivnika da pronađe karte koje mu trebaju, Dark Ruler no More koji negira sve protivničke monster efekte, Lightning Storm koji može uništiti ili protivničke monstere ili spellove/trapove.
Većina staple karata u TCG-u su relativno jeftine zahvaljujući čestim ponovnim izdanjima u novijim paketićima. Iznimke su u pravilu novije karte koje je Konami odlučio printati samo u teško dostupnim raritetima, pa je njihova dostupnost ograničena dok ne dobiju reprint - ponovno izdanje.
Najznačajnija razlika u samoj igri između TCG-a i Master Duela je što koriste različitu listu ograničenih i zabranjenih karata, pa neke karte koje su iznimno važne u Master Duelu nisu uopće dozvoljene u TCG-u - npr. Maxx "C". Povrh toga, TCG se igra u best of 3 formatu sa side deckom od 15 karata, pa vaš deck možete mijenjati iz početne konfiguracije za 2 ili 3 duel u setu, ubacujući prikladne stapleove za pobjeđivanje protivničkog decka. Imajući to na umu, morat ćete ponovno naučiti što je "meta", što je najbolje i što pobjeđuje turnire. Također, TCG je vremenski ispred Master Duela, nove karte izlaze pola godine prije nego što ih se doda u Master Duel.
Opčenito dobra opcija za početak je kupiti 3 primjerka jakog Structure Decka. Structure Deckovi sadrže koherentnu strategiju poduprtu s nekoliko generično dobrih karata, često reprinta stapleica. Kako skoro svaka karta dolazi u jednom primjerku, potrebna su vam 3 primjerka decka kako biste si osigurali deck core koji možete nadograđivati.
Najbolji Structure Deck trenutno u prodaji (siječanj 2024.) je Fire Kings , koji osim jake Fire atribute strategije sadrži i primjerke Droll & Lock Bird, Solemn Judgment i Infinite Impermanence. Osim njega, dobar izbor je i Beware of Traptrix , koji sadrži Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring i Evenly Matched.
Jednom kad imate deck core (jezgru špila) koji želite nadograđivati, želite ga popuniti sa staple kartama za vaš main, extra i side deck. Tu dolaze u igru Mega Tinovi i ostali reprint setovi tijekom svake godine.
